At 450 grams per square metre this is the wool equivalent of a 10 tog down duvet, and it is the one we send to couples who cannot agree on a temperature. Wool evens out the warm side and the cold side of the bed better than any other fill, because it is moving moisture rather than simply trapping air.
It is also the natural choice for anyone who reacts to down, since the wool is scoured clean and the dense sateen shell keeps dust out. It is heavy: a 200 × 200 weighs 2.4 kg against 1.6 kg for the goose all-season. Some people find that reassuring; if you like a duvet that floats, buy the down.
