Warmth and fill

Tog is a measure of thermal resistance: how well the duvet stops heat leaving you. 4.5 tog is a summer duvet, 10.5 is for a heated bedroom in winter, 13.5 is for a cold room. It is a property of the whole duvet, not the fill, so a 10.5 tog wool duvet and a 10.5 tog down duvet are equally warm and feel nothing alike. The warmth guide matches each tog to a bedroom temperature.

Down if you want the lightest duvet and do not mind airing it. Wool if you sleep hot, share a bed with someone who sleeps cold, or wake up damp. Recycled fibre if you need to wash the duvet at 60 °C, have an allergy to animal fill, or are furnishing a guest room. There is a longer answer on each product page, and the drawbacks of each fill are listed there too.

True down allergy is rare; most reactions to old down bedding are to dust mites living in it, which is solved by a protector and a 60 °C wash of the covers. If you know you react to down or to wool, the recycled-fibre duvet and pillow are the ones to buy, and they wash hot. If you are unsure, the thirty-night trial exists for exactly this.

Because wool does not loft. Down traps air in clusters and puffs up; wool is a dense batting that lies flat and works by moving moisture. The flatness is not a fault and it does not mean less warmth. It will look much the same in year five as on day one.

The summer and all-season down duvets, yes, in a drum of 8 kg or more, at 40 °C, followed by a long tumble dry on low with dryer balls until it is bone dry. The winter down duvet and the feather topper are too heavy for a domestic machine and go to a laundry once a year. A down duvet that is put away damp will smell and clump, so if in doubt, use a laundry. The care guide has the full routine.

Pillows

Front sleepers want something low and soft: the soft down pillow. Back sleepers want medium support: the medium down pillow or the wool pillow. Side sleepers, especially broad-shouldered ones, need height and firmness: the wool pillow with extra fill, or the buckwheat. If you change position all night, the wool pillow adjusts most easily.

Noticeably, for the first week. It sounds like a bean bag every time you turn over. Most people stop hearing it within seven to ten nights; a light-sleeping partner may take longer. If you are at all doubtful, that is what the thirty nights are for.

Two likely causes. It has absorbed skin oil and moisture through the pillowcase, which a pillow protector prevents and a wash will largely reverse; or it has not been shaken. Down pillows need a shake and a punch every morning and an airing once a week. If after washing and drying it fully it is still flat, email us.

Because Europe has not agreed. Sweden, the Nordics, the UK and the Netherlands use 50 × 70; Belgium and France use 60 × 60; Germany and Austria use 80 × 80. Buy the size your pillowcases are, not the one you think is standard.

Protectors, toppers and the rest

A sheet is washed weekly and keeps skin off the mattress; it does not stop sweat and skin oil going through it. A protector does, and it is the single cheapest thing that extends the life of a mattress or a topper. If you own a wool or feather topper, which cannot be washed, a protector over it is close to compulsory.

From about five centimetres new to about three and a half after six months, then it holds. That is printed on the product page because every wool topper does it. Flipping and turning it quarterly keeps the settling even.

No. It lies flat against the face, so a little light comes in around the nose. It is the mask for comfort and for skin. For a dark room on a bright morning, the padded cotton mask with its eye cups blocks far more.

Anything up to a 40 W equivalent; an LED of 4 to 6 W is ideal and runs cool. A hotter bulb yellows the fabric within a year or two. The shades fit a standard lamp holder and come with a reducer ring for the smaller one.

Trial, guarantee, shipping, returns

Buy a duvet or pillow, sleep on it with a cover or protector, and if within 30 nights of delivery it is the wrong warmth, height or weight, email us. We send a label, you post it, and the price less €9,90 return postage is refunded within 14 days of it reaching us. Returned bedding is laundered and donated, never resold. The trial covers duvets and pillows only.

Two things: a baffle wall or quilting seam that opens, and fill that migrates so that one chamber is empty and another overfull and will not shake back. Repair or replacement, with postage both ways inside the EU. It does not cover damage from washing an item marked for professional laundering, tears, burns, stains or pets. Details on the about page.

From Stockholm, within two working days of the order. Sweden in 1 to 2 working days; Denmark, Finland, Norway and Germany in 2 to 4; the rest of the EU in 3 to 7. The UK and Switzerland take 5 to 9 and the carrier collects import VAT and any duty on delivery.

Yes, within 30 days of delivery, unused and in its packaging, for a full refund of the item price. Return postage is yours unless the item was faulty or we sent the wrong thing. That is on top of the 14 days EU law gives you, not instead of it.

No. Everything is sold through this site only, which is a large part of why the prices are what they are.
